Approved in 1939, the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system now runs 13 parks along the Huron and Clinton rivers, arcing around metro Detroit across more than 24,000 acres. Kensington and Stony Creek are the giants, each over 4,400 acres. Nine parks share 84 miles of paved hike and bike trails, and you'll also find beaches and pools, golf and disc golf, fishing and paddling. About 7.5 million people visit each year, and the system even has its own police force.
