Honey Bee Market La Colmena is a Southwest Detroit institution on Bagley Street in Mexicantown, a short walk from Michigan Central. Locals often point to it when knocking down the myth that Detroit is one big food desert. The store outgrew its original 4,000-square-foot shop and moved into a 15,000-square-foot building next door, and co-owner Ken Koehler restored the old storefront in 2012. Come for Mexican and Latin American groceries, fresh produce and the meat counter.
