The Freezer Theater was an illegal, unlicensed show space in an old Cass Corridor storefront that for roughly a year in 1981–82 was the home of Detroit hardcore punk and a centerpiece of the Midwest hardcore scene. Local bands Negative Approach, the Necros and the Meatmen played there alongside touring acts such as Minor Threat and the Misfits. According to Negative Approach singer John Brannon, a riot in the parking lot during a Minor Threat / Meatmen / Negative Approach show ended the Freezer's run in 1982.
