01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
The College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science calls its atrium Hesterberg Hall, after Gene Hesterberg, department head from 1962 to 1980. The huge support beams stand for trees and the roof for a forest canopy. More than 50 flags hang here, for students' home countries and the countries they served in during their degrees. The building honors Ubald J. Noblet, the department's first head (1936–1962) and one of Michigan Tech's first hockey coaches. It also has a greenhouse, plus wood murals, wildlife prints and sculptures throughout.
- Beams designed to look like trees
- 50-plus flags from around the world
- Carved wood murals and maple paneling
- Greenhouse in the building
