Susan Woods founded the East Lansing Film Festival, which has brought independent films from around the world to mid-Michigan for 29 years, alongside the Lake Michigan Film Competition and the East Lansing Film Series. In February 2026 Woods announced that 2026 would be the final year for both the East Lansing and the Lake Michigan film festivals. The last East Lansing Film Festival is scheduled for October 22-25, 2026 at the Hannah Community Center, with sponsors including Celebration Cinema and Michigan State University. Its mission also covered promoting filmmaking in the Lake Michigan region, through the Lake Michigan Film Competition, the 48/5 Film Contest and a festival trailer contest.
