Downtown Rochester mixes historic and hip in northern Oakland County. Main Street and the blocks around it hold more than 400 shops, salons, restaurants and service businesses, and 85% of them are independent merchants rather than chains. Rivers wrap around the city, and three parks and two winding trails sit close to downtown. The Downtown Development Authority runs a farmers' market, an event calendar, a local magazine and a mural tour.
