What’s it like to stay here?
Hans Gehrke designed the five-story Detroit Fire Department Headquarters, finished in 1929, and it served the department for more than 80 years. In 2017 it reopened as a 100-room hotel. The apparatus bays where fire trucks once waited are now the Apparatus Room restaurant and bar, the Chef's Table upstairs hosts rotating chef residencies, and the firefighters' brass poles are still in place. Rooms have reclaimed-wood headboards and murals of local architecture, and the suites top out with the Commissioner's Suite and its pool table. You're a block from the riverfront and a short walk from Huntington Place, so it works for a convention trip or a weekend with your dog.
