01 / The story of this place

The arena was built in 1952 as the Stadium Arena (Grand Rapids Stadium) and was the Grand Rapids area's main indoor entertainment venue until Van Andel Arena opened in 1996. The Langlois family bought and rebuilt it in the 1990s and reopened it in 1998 as the DeltaPlex Arena & Conference Center, a 5,500-seat hall that held several thousand more for concerts and hosted national touring acts, expos, graduations and the NBA G League's Grand Rapids Gold. After contractor Visser Brothers bought it for $5.5 million, it closed on July 31, 2022, and the site was rezoned for industrial warehousing.
