01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
The Georgian-style Colony Club went up in 1927 and opened in 1929 as one of four women's clubs clustered around Park Avenue and Montcalm. The club itself closed in 1933, and the building later housed the UAW headquarters and the Detroit Police Academy before Charles Forbes bought it in 1984. Now it's a wedding and private-event venue: the Grand Ballroom has gold leaf ceilings, crystal chandeliers and Louis XVI decor, plus a mezzanine. It holds up to 500 guests with in-house catering, bar and A/V.
