Club Three Sixes took its name from its address, 666 E. Adams, in the heart of Paradise Valley; Black businessman Andrew “Jap” Sneed opened it in the early 1940s (sources give 1941 or 1942), first under the name Dance Paradise. It presented national acts such as Duke Ellington, Dinah Washington, the Ink Spots, Sarah Vaughan, Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald, plus revues with the Ted Buckner band, and catered an event for the Tuskegee Airmen. By 1949 it had changed owners and was renamed Club Valley.
