After Glow (the Afterglow Lounge) was a gay after-hours club on McNichols near Woodward that ran from about 1976 to 1983, and around 1977 it went by the name Club Fever. A DJ from that era remembered it as Detroit's first after-hours dance club: when Cafe Gigi's, Menjo's, The Gas Station and Bookie's called last call, DJs and their followers moved on here. Resident DJ Michael Melkonian played obscure jazz- and Latin-influenced dance music on a then state-of-the-art Bose sound system in a dim, European-style room that drew dancers from as far as Toronto and New York.
