Clover Hill Park Cemetery was founded in 1918 by leaders of Congregation Shaarey Zedek, growing out of Detroit's oldest traditional Jewish congregation and its original burial ground, the small Beth Olem Cemetery downtown. Set on sixty acres in Birmingham, it's the resting place of nearly sixteen thousand people and remains one of the region's most significant Jewish cemeteries. Real estate developer and philanthropist Max Fisher, who helped shape modern Detroit through his business and civic work, was buried here after his death in 2005. Shopping mall pioneer A. Alfred Taubman, whose company transformed American retail and who gave millions to Detroit's cultural and educational institutions, was laid to rest here in 2015.
