The Chrome Cat opened in Lansing's Old Town in January 2009 to fill the gap left by Club 505. The lesbian-owned bar hosted many LGBTQ+ events and groups from across Mid-Michigan. Financial problems forced it to close for good on April 30, 2011. This block of Grand River Avenue has since been renamed Cesar E. Chavez Avenue.
