01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
A group of Ann Arbor entrepreneurs started the project in 2016 and opened in 2019: by day it's desks for startups, remote workers, journalists and designers, and at night the event room belongs to the town. It sets up 100 auditorium-style chairs and comes with a projection screen, a sound system and its own lighting rig, plus a speakeasy called The Green Room. Penny Seats Theatre Company performs here too; in October 2026 it staged the world premiere of Joseph Zettelmaier's The Opera Ghost. The calendar also has Python meetups, salsa and bachata nights and an autumn market, and in October 2025 UMS brought the Philharmonia Orchestra's free Virtual Orchestra VR experience here.
