01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
The building began as the Birmingham Teen Club, a sock-hop hall where dancers checked their shoes in the lobby, and ran as the Village Pub / Something Different from April 27, 1968. It reopened as the Birmingham Palladium on November 7, 1969 with Bob Seger, Cactus, Third Power and Johnny & the Hurricanes, and Russ Gibb, who ran the Grande, was among its operators. Until it closed in 1971 the hall booked Chuck Berry, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Fleetwood Mac, Parliament, the Frost, the Amboy Dukes, Teegarden & Van Winkle and Alice Cooper.
