Avalon Woodward
Downtown café from Detroit's beloved Avalon bakery: organic breads, the famous sea-salt chocolate chunk cookie and coffee from 8 a.m.

01 / The story of this place
Make time for these
Avalon International Breads pulled its first loaves out of a hearthstone oven in June 1997, in a little converted storefront in the Cass Corridor, baking with organic flour and a plan built on three bottom lines: earth, community and employees. The founders raised their first $6,000 by selling 'bread dough dollars' to friends and family. The Woodward café brings that same bakery downtown with fresh bread, pastries and coffee. If you try one thing, make it the chocolate chunk cookie with flaky sea salt.
- Detroit bakery dating to 1997
- Sea-salt chocolate chunk cookie is the signature
- Open daily 8 a.m.–3 p.m.
- Weekly deals like Muffin Monday and Fresh Cookie Friday
