Osama Siblani, an engineer who emigrated from Lebanon, launched The Arab American News in Dearborn in 1984, at a time when few outlets covered Michigan's growing Arab American community in its own languages. The paper runs stories in both Arabic and English, covering politics, business and community life from a Dearborn newsroom, and it grew alongside metro Detroit's Arab American population into the largest and oldest paper of its kind in the United States. Siblani himself became one of the most prominent Arab American voices in the country, a fixture at press conferences with presidential candidates and a frequent commentator on Middle East policy. In September 2025, Wayne County renamed a stretch of Warren Avenue near the newspaper's Dearborn office after him, recognizing decades of reporting on the community he helped give a voice.
