The Southfield Americana's little sibling in West Bloomfield: it opened in 1980 as a four-screen house with a real curtain in front of every screen, grew to six screens, closed in 1999 and became a fitness center.

Make time for these
The Americana West opened on October 24, 1980, on Orchard Lake Road for the Nicholas George chain, named after his Americana in Southfield. Louis Wiltse designed it as a quad, with a curtain in front of each screen. AMC bought it in 1986 and split the two big auditoriums, turning it into a six-plex with 1,650 seats. It closed on May 2, 1999. The building was then converted into a fitness center.
