Make time for these
The Ann Arbor District Library launched this free, self-guided tour in 2024 to trace local queer history, including places that have since disappeared. Its nine stops, illustrated with archival photos, include the 1971 U-M Human Sexuality Office, the Nectarine Ballroom (later Necto), Common Language Bookstore, the Flame bar, the Rubaiyat lesbian disco, Womanspace and Braun Court. The guide can be downloaded as a PDF, and the library also produces “The Gayest Generation,” an oral-history podcast.
