Make time for these
220 Merrill lives in a 1932 building that Detroit Edison put up as its customer office for the northern suburbs. The first restaurant here opened in August 1979, and regulars shortened its name to just '220.' Denise Ilitch and Zaid Elia bought the building in 2014 and relaunched it on July 30 that year, keeping the original paneling, the marble slate floor in the bar and the scrolled ceiling trim. Expect contemporary American cooking, weekend brunch and a weekday happy hour.
