The Detroit story
Green grew up in Detroit and graduated from Cooley High School in 1999 before playing college basketball at the University of Detroit Mercy. Seattle drafted him in the second round in 2003, and he went on to a long NBA career as a guard for Philadelphia, New Orleans, Atlanta, the Los Angeles Clippers and Orlando, though he never played for his hometown Pistons. After retiring he moved into coaching, eventually becoming head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans and later an assistant with the Dallas Mavericks, carrying his Detroit roots into a second career on NBA sidelines.
