The Detroit story
Already one of the most accomplished German-born players in NHL history after scoring the Stanley Cup-clinching goal for Colorado in 1996, Krupp signed with the Red Wings and joined a veteran Detroit blue line built for another title run. A back injury cost him the entire 1999–2000 and 2000–01 seasons, and the club briefly suspended his pay after he was found dogsledding against medical advice while hurt. He returned for the 2001–02 season and helped anchor Detroit's defense as the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup, making him the second German-born player ever to win the trophy and giving him titles with two different franchises. He retired the following year after a brief stint in Atlanta.
