The Detroit story
Detroit acquired Harris in a February 2016 trade for Ersan İlyasova and Brandon Jennings, and he scored 21 points off the bench in his debut. He helped the Pistons reach the playoffs in 2016 for the first time since 2009, though Cleveland swept them in the first round, and he was traded again in 2018. Six years later, in July 2024, Harris returned to Detroit on a two-year deal and became a steady scoring option as the Pistons finally turned a corner: the 2024–25 team went 44–38, its first winning season since 2016, and won a playoff series for the first time since 2019 before losing a hard-fought Game 7 to Cleveland in the second round. Off the court, Harris has one of the largest career earnings totals of any NBA player never selected to an All-Star team.
