The Detroit story
Tim Gleason was born in Clawson, a small city in Oakland County just north of Detroit. As a boy he played for the Detroit Little Caesars minor hockey club, one of the region's best-known youth programs, appearing with the team at the 1996 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. The Ottawa Senators drafted him 23rd overall in 2001, and Gleason went on to a long NHL career as a defenseman, mostly with the Carolina Hurricanes, without ever playing for the Detroit Red Wings.
