The Detroit story
Greiss signed a two-year, $7.2 million contract with Detroit in October 2020 after stints with San Jose, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and the New York Islanders. During his two seasons as part of the Red Wings' goaltending rotation, he posted consecutive shutouts, only the second Detroit goaltender to do so since Petr Mrázek in 2018. His stint in Detroit marked the tail end of a steady journeyman NHL career built mostly as a capable backup and occasional starter.
