The Detroit story
Fraser grew up in the Detroit suburb of Hazel Park and became a Michigan high school state wrestling champion before wrestling collegiately as a two-time All-American at the University of Michigan. In 1984 he won the 90-kilogram Greco-Roman wrestling gold medal at the Los Angeles Olympics, the first Greco-Roman gold the United States had ever won. He was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame in 2008, and went on to a long career coaching the sport he had helped pioneer at the top level for the United States.
