The Detroit story
Rose Abdoo was born in Detroit on November 28, 1962, and grew up in the northwest suburb of Southfield, graduating from Southfield High School. She stayed in Michigan for college, earning a Bachelor of Arts in communication from Michigan State University in 1984 and later a Master of Fine Arts in acting there. A versatile character comedian, she moved into television in the 1990s and has worked steadily ever since. She is best remembered as Gypsy, the blunt local mechanic of Stars Hollow on Gilmore Girls, a role she brought back for the Netflix revival, and as the Spanish teacher Señorita Rodriguez on Disney's That's So Raven. More recently she has played Josefina, the longtime house manager of comedian Deborah Vance, on the Emmy-winning HBO Max series Hacks.
