The Detroit story
Mohammed signed with the Pistons as a free agent in July 2006 and stepped into the starting center role on a Detroit roster that had reached the Eastern Conference finals the year before. He anchored the middle for the 2006–07 season and into the next, before Detroit traded him to the Charlotte Bobcats in December 2007 for Primož Brezec and Walter Herrmann. Over an 18-season NBA career with eight teams, his year and a half in Detroit was one of several stops for a reliable, physical big man who later became a general manager and scout in the Oklahoma City Thunder organization.
