The Detroit story
Marc Kinchen was born in Detroit and grew up in the city's late-1980s house and techno scene, in which his brother Scott DJed warm-up sets at the Music Institute. As MK he produced the underground anthem “Burning” and, with singer Alana Simon, the US Hot Dance Club Play No. 1s “Always” (1993) and “Love Changes” (1994); he also charted as 4th Measure Men. His dub remix of Nightcrawlers' “Push the Feeling On”, built from chopped vocal fragments, became a UK No. 3 hit and one of the most imitated house remixes ever. His remixes also gave Céline Dion her first dance No. 1 with “Misled”. In 2001 he moved to Los Angeles, where he produced for Will Smith, Pitbull and film and TV projects. A second wave of success came with his 2013 remix of Storm Queen's “Look Right Through”, a UK No. 1, and in 2023 he won an ARIA Award with Dom Dolla for “Rhyme Dust”.
