The Detroit story
Mike Henry was born in Pontiac, the Oakland County seat north of Detroit, to parents who were both artists, but he grew up in Richmond, Virginia, with his younger brother Patrick. He joined Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy as a writer, producer and voice actor when the show began in 1999. For two decades he voiced the mild-mannered neighbor Cleveland Brown, along with characters such as the creepy Herbert, Bruce and the housekeeper Consuela. He co-created the spin-off The Cleveland Show (2009–2013), in which he also voiced Cleveland and his stepson Rallo Tubbs. In 2020 he announced he would step back from voicing Cleveland, a Black character, saying people of color should play people of color. His Michigan tie is his birthplace.
