The Detroit story
Brandon Green was born in Southfield, the suburb on Detroit's northwest border, and studied at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. While still a student he landed his first major production, on Houston rapper Bun B's 2005 album Trill, which went gold. After graduating he moved to Atlanta, signed with Ne-Yo's Compound Entertainment and released the mixtape Upside Down with Keri Hilson, Trey Songz, Drake and T-Pain. As Bei Maejor he earned Grammy nominations for work on Trey Songz's Passion, Pain & Pleasure and Monica's Still Standing, and his singles “Trouble” with J. Cole and “Lights Down Low” reached the R&B chart. He produced two songs on Justin Bieber's Believe (2012), and “Lolly” (2013), with Juicy J and Bieber, reached No. 19 on the Hot 100. In 2016 he formed the EDM duo Area21 with Dutch DJ Martin Garrix, and his 2020 album Vol. 1: Frequencies explored music tuned to so-called healing frequencies.
