The Detroit story
Dávid built his early career in Hungarian and European basketball before signing with the Toronto Raptors as a free agent in August 2000, becoming the first and, to date, only Hungarian-born player to appear in the NBA. His stay in Toronto was brief, and in February 2001 he was traded to the Detroit Pistons, giving him a short stint in the league's most storied Michigan franchise before his NBA career wound down and he returned to play professionally in Europe. Though his time in Detroit was measured in weeks rather than seasons, his NBA career remains a point of pride and a landmark for Hungarian basketball.
