Kaitlyn Maher was born in Novi, a suburb in Oakland County northwest of Detroit, on January 10, 2004, and was raised in Ashburn, Virginia, so her tie to metro Detroit is her birthplace. In 2008, at four years old, she sang on the third season of America's Got Talent and became the youngest top-10 finalist the show had seen, which opened doors to acting. She starred in family films such as The Search for Santa Paws, Santa Paws 2 and the PupStar series, voiced a role in the animated Free Birds, and appeared on Fox's The Goodwin Games and PBS's Mack and Moxy. As a teenager she added songwriting and competitive debate, and she became the first youth ambassador of the charity Compassion International.
