The Detroit story
Judy Greer was born Judith Therese Evans in Detroit on July 20, 1975, and grew up Roman Catholic in the western suburbs of Redford Township and Livonia. She went to Churchill High School in Livonia, where she was part of the Creative and Performing Arts program, then left Michigan for The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago, graduating in 1997. Hollywood cast her again and again as the best friend, the sister or the scene-stealing coworker, in films from 13 Going on 30 and The Descendants to Ant-Man, Jurassic World and Halloween, and on television in Arrested Development, Archer and Married. In her 2014 essay collection I Don't Know What You Know Me From she wrote warmly about the city she comes from, calling Detroit 'America's sad family member who can't catch a break.'
