The Detroit story
Josh Gracin grew up in Westland in western Wayne County and sang through his school years at Michigan festivals, fairs and pageants. After graduating from Westland's John Glenn High School he studied briefly at Western Michigan University, then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, where he worked as a supply clerk. While still an active-duty Marine he competed on the second season of American Idol in 2003 and finished fourth. His self-titled debut album (2004) was certified gold and produced the No. 1 country hit “Nothin' to Lose” plus two more top-five singles. A second album, We Weren't Crazy, followed in 2008 and yielded five more chart singles. He remains one of the best-known country singers to come out of metro Detroit.
