The Detroit story
Jon Husted was born in Royal Oak, a suburb of Detroit, in August 1967. Shortly after his birth he was placed for adoption, and he was raised by James and Judith Husted in Montpelier, a small town in northwestern Ohio, as the eldest of three children. His Detroit-area birth is therefore the whole of his connection to metro Detroit. He played football at the University of Dayton and built his career in Ohio politics: he served in the Ohio House of Representatives, including four years as its speaker, then in the Ohio Senate, as Ohio secretary of state from 2011 to 2019 and as lieutenant governor under Mike DeWine from 2019 to 2025. In January 2025 DeWine appointed him to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by JD Vance when Vance became vice president.
