The Detroit story
Jimmie Wilson was born in Detroit and trained as an actor in Hollywood before building a career in musical theatre and pop. He performed in Sisterella, a stage musical produced by Michael Jackson, and played Barack Obama in the European musical Hope. In 2017 he and Sammarinese singer Valentina Monetta were chosen to represent San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv with the disco-pop duet "Spirit of the Night," which did not advance from its semi-final; for Monetta it was a fourth Eurovision appearance for San Marino. Wikipedia records no later Detroit residence, so his tie to the city is his birth.
