The Detroit story
Born in Southfield and raised in suburban Plymouth, Stollsteimer formed the Von Bondies in 1997 after starting out in Detroit bands that toured with the Detroit Cobras, the Go and the White Stripes. A New Year's Eve show in Detroit in 2000 gave the band its break, and it became one of the most visible acts of the city's garage revival. Their second album, Pawn Shoppe Heart (2004), produced the single “C'mon C'mon,” which became the theme of the TV series Rescue Me, and took them on headlining tours of Britain, Europe and Australia. In December 2003 a fight with Jack White at the Magic Stick, during a record release party, left Stollsteimer hospitalized and led to an assault charge against White, a clash that drew national press. The band broke up in 2011 and reformed briefly in 2020; he later led the Hounds Below and Ponyshow and still lives in metro Detroit.
