The Detroit story
Jaime Ray Newman was born and raised in Farmington Hills, in a Jewish family, and was performing around Detroit from childhood, appearing in many of the area's regional theaters. At the Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit she starred as Ado Annie in an eighth-grade Oklahoma!, and she then attended Cranbrook Kingswood in Bloomfield Hills, spending summers at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, where she won the Corson Award for acting. At Cranbrook she took first place in the Michigan Interscholastic Forensic Association's dramatic competition three years running before graduating in 1996. On television she has played Kristina Cassadine on General Hospital, Mindy O'Dell on Veronica Mars, Tess Fontana on Eureka and Sarah Lieberman in Marvel's The Punisher, among many roles. She has also produced and directed short films.
