The Detroit story
Jacob Trouba was born in Rochester, a Detroit-area suburb in Oakland County, and as a boy played for the Detroit Compuware youth hockey club, once helping it compete at the Quebec International Pee-Wee Tournament. After junior hockey he spent one season at the University of Michigan in 2012–13, where he became the program's first-ever freshman named a First Team All-American. The Winnipeg Jets drafted him ninth overall in 2012, and Trouba went on to a long NHL career with Winnipeg, the New York Rangers, and later the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks, though a rumored 2024 trade to his hometown Red Wings never materialized — Detroit was reportedly one of the teams on his no-trade list.
