The Detroit story
Chivez Smith was raised on Detroit's east side in the 6 Mile (East McNichols) neighborhood. He started out in Green Guyz, a group founded by relatives in Minnesota, and broke through locally with his mixtape series The Clarity from 2012. In 2018 he signed with Motown, releasing Clarity 6 with Kash Doll and “Balance” with Big Sean. His Rich Off Pints trilogy (2021–2022), with guests such as Lil Durk, Future and Lil Baby, topped the Heatseekers chart, and in 2022 his Iced Up Records imprint partnered with Atlanta's Quality Control Music. His neighborhood stays central to his work: for the 2024 album Live from the 6 he paid for free bus rides on the McNichols (6 Mile) routes, and he joined the 2020 census drive with Mayor Mike Duggan. With Peezy he opened a House of Dank cannabis dispensary on Gratiot Avenue in 2025. His business interests also include film production through Iced Up Films.
