The Detroit story
Detroit acquired Kinsler from Texas in November 2013 in a straight swap of All-Stars for Prince Fielder, with the Tigers also sending $30 million to cover the salary gap. He asked for and received permission from Detroit great Alan Trammell to wear his old No. 3, and in his first season led the American League in at-bats, a Tigers record, while scoring 100 runs for the fifth time in his career. His defense set the tone at Comerica Park: his 2014 and 2015 seasons rank among the best defensive years by any player in franchise history, and in 2016 he won a Gold Glove while becoming the first Tiger to hit leadoff home runs in four straight games, then breaking the franchise's single-season leadoff-homer record. Traded to the Angels after 2017, he later won a World Series with Boston in 2018.
