The Detroit story
Detroit selected Ellenson, a Marquette product, 18th overall in the 2016 NBA draft, betting on his size and outside shooting touch as a stretch big man. He spent his three seasons on his rookie contract with the Pistons developing his game, regularly shuttling between the parent club and its G League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive, as he worked to earn a consistent NBA role. The Pistons released him in February 2019, and he went on to play for several other NBA teams before continuing his career overseas in Korea.
