The Detroit story
Kobe was born Gabriella Kieliszewski in Hamtramck in 1932, the younger child of Benjamin and Theresa Kieliszewski, who later Americanized the family name. She graduated from Hamtramck High School and went west to study theatre and dance at UCLA. As an actress she was a familiar face of television's golden age, playing Penny Adams in the western series Trackdown and appearing in The Twilight Zone, Gunsmoke, Perry Mason and, in 1965, Peyton Place. Moving behind the camera, she worked as a producer on The Edge of Night, was executive producer of NBC's Texas and then, from 1983 to 1986, of CBS's Guiding Light, earning a Daytime Emmy nomination. She was a producer of The Bold and the Beautiful from its 1987 debut into the early 1990s. She also taught drama at San Fernando Valley State College. She died in 2013.
