01 / The Detroit story

The Detroit story

Mironov, a steady offensive defenceman originally drafted by Toronto, joined Detroit partway through the 1997–98 season after a trade from Anaheim that sent Jamie Pushor and a draft pick the other way. The move paid off immediately: the Red Wings went on to repeat as Stanley Cup champions that June, sweeping the Washington Capitals, and Mironov collected a championship ring in his only season with the team. He moved on afterward, later playing in the NHL for Buffalo and Pittsburgh before finishing his career in Russia.
