The Detroit story
Detroit acquired Ciccarelli from the Washington Capitals in June 1992 in exchange for Kevin Miller, and he immediately became one of the Red Wings' top scorers, finishing his first Detroit season with 41 goals and 97 points, both second-best on the team. In the 1995 playoffs he scored nine goals in sixteen games as the Red Wings reached the Stanley Cup Final, where they lost to New Jersey, and the next season he helped Detroit set an NHL record with 62 wins. The Red Wings traded him to Tampa Bay in August 1996. He later opened the nightclub Club 22 in Shelby Charter Township, named for his jersey number, and two Detroit-area sports bars, including one across from the Palace of Auburn Hills and another near Cobo Center that opens for Red Wings home games.
