The Detroit story
Dey Young comes from Bloomfield Hills, the affluent Oakland County suburb north of Detroit. Her first notable film role was the rebellious student Kate Rambeau in Roger Corman's cult musical comedy Rock 'n' Roll High School (1979), alongside the Ramones. Over the next four decades she appeared in more than 100 films and television productions, including Spaceballs, The Running Man and The Serpent and the Rainbow. Her best-remembered scene is in Pretty Woman (1990), as the haughty Rodeo Drive saleswoman who refuses to serve Julia Roberts's character. Star Trek fans know her from guest roles in three different series: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine and Enterprise. She is also a sculptor who exhibits her work.
