The Detroit story
Dean Cain was born Dean George Tanaka on July 31, 1966, at Selfridge Air Force Base in Harrison Township, the military airfield near Mount Clemens on Lake St. Clair, about 25 miles northeast of downtown Detroit. He left Michigan as a baby; after his mother married film director Christopher Cain, whose surname he took, he grew up in California. He first made his name in football: as a safety at Princeton University he set a national interception record in 1987 and signed with the Buffalo Bills, but a knee injury ended his playing career. He turned to acting and in 1993 became Clark Kent and Superman in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which ran for four seasons. He later hosted Ripley's Believe It or Not! and produced and acted in many films.
