The Detroit story
Tampa Bay traded David Price to Detroit at the July 2014 deadline, and he made an immediate impact, striking out ten without a walk in his Tigers debut against the Yankees. On the final day of the 2014 season he pitched seven and a third shutout innings to beat Minnesota and clinch Detroit's fourth straight American League Central title. Named the Tigers' 2015 opening day starter, ending teammate Justin Verlander's streak of seven straight openers, Price went on to lead the American League in ERA that season. Detroit traded him to Toronto that July when the team fell out of contention, but his year and a half in a Tigers uniform remains one of the best stretches of his career.
