The Detroit story
Charlie White was born in Dearborn on October 24, 1987, and grew up in Oakland County, where he attended the Roeper School in Birmingham from nursery school through high school, playing violin in the school string quartet and serving in student government. He started skating at five and in 1997 was paired with Meryl Davis, who lived ten minutes away. The duo trained at the Arctic Edge Arena in Canton under Igor Shpilband and Marina Zoueva while White studied political science at the University of Michigan. Together they took Olympic silver in 2010 and, at Sochi in 2014, the first Olympic ice-dance gold for the United States. White stayed in Michigan: he lives in Ann Arbor with his wife, fellow Olympian Tanith Belbin White, and in 2022 the two opened the Michigan Ice Dance Academy in Canton with Greg Zuerlein.
